The ‘GREGORY UNIVERSITY’ is named after Pope St. Gregory I (540 – 604 AD) better known as Gregory the Great was Pope from 3 September 590 until his death. He was a renowned and distinguished educationist and a pious and learned man of God who had the single opportunity of being made the Doctor of the Catholic Church. Pope St. Gregory I worked hard to alleviate the suffering of the people. He employed writings and other actions, including education of his people, to protect them against the lawlessness of civil power. It is the life, hard work, dedication, commitment, and achievements of Pope St. Gregory I that have inspired the Proprietor to name the university after him. The goal is for Gregory University to epitomise the accomplishments of Pope St. Gregory I and the work of Gregory Iyke Foundation in Nigeria as well as to inculcate in every graduate of the university the zeal, enthusiasm and commitment exhibited by Pope St. Gregory I. The achievement of this goal shall translate and mirror in the rapid socio-economic development of the graduates of the university, of Nigeria and of mankind.
The Proprietor of the Gregory University is Gregory Iyke Foundation. Gregory Iyke Foundation is a humanitarian organisation established in 1991 and incorporated on 14 June 2007 (RC No. CAC/IT/NO 24072) by Chief Gregory Ibe, Ph. Al-Hikmah University stands out among Nigerian universities as a private conventional university with a well-articulated mission of promoting both academic and moral excellence for the good of the Nigerian nation in particular and for furthering the course of humanity in general.
The overall goal of the University is summed up in its motto: “Learning for Wisdom and Morality”. The curriculum of our Noble Institution is geared towards promoting academic excellence and also ensuring moral and spiritual uprightness of our youths, most especially in the face of the imposing vicious challenges posed to humanity at large at the wake of the 21st Century.
Not only this, we are poised to contribute to the economic growth of the nation through offering employment opportunities to all, irrespective of political, social, religious, gender, racial or ethnic affiliations. From its inception to date, the institution has continued to grow and develop in its quantity and quality of human, physical and material resources.
Like a Trojan horse, we began our race with calculated trotting steps. But with the vision and mission statements of the University as our propelling force at heart, we have galloped into full speed of launching scholarship with a uniqueness of some sort.
Of course, we realize that we are far from being there, but at least we beat our chest and thank Allah Ta’ala that we have not derailed from our set course and goals. Twice, we have turned out crop of students, who have been baked and steeped in the Al- Hikmah rigorous academic tradition. Those students have satisfied and fulfilled the academic and moral requirements upon which the awards of this university are based. They are the worthy ambassadors of this noble citadel of learning. This we can say without mincing words, that the curriculum of the school is erected on the tenets and cornerstones of Islamic philosophy, which is rare to come by in contemporary institutions of higher learning, especially in Nigeria.
Project Management for Development Professionals (PMD Pro) was developed due to the need to tailor project management training to meet the needs and realities of the development sector.
PMD Pro is a Project Management course specifically tailored to meet the needs and realities of the humanitarian and development sector work. Most technical experts, do not have extensive experience or skills in project management, as this has not been the strategic focus of many development organizations. PMD Pro helps to improve development professionals’ project management capacity, in a contextualized, balanced, comprehensive, and adaptable manner so as to help increase the efficiency and effectiveness of projects in the development sector. The course covers basic project management concepts, techniques, tools and terms specific to NGOs and the development sector.
The course is divided into three modules; PMD Pro1, PMD Pro2 and PMD Pro3 and is assessed by a multiple choice exam which is completed online. Participants need to complete the first module and get certified in order to qualify for the next level.
PMD Pro1 is a five day introduction to project management in a humanitarian and development context. It covers basic concepts, tools and terms of project management specific to NGO’s; the PMD Pro2 is the application of the concepts in development project scenarios while the PMD Pro3 is for continuous development for professional career through the pursuit of an advanced qualification form an independent, internationally-recognized certification board.
Established in 2003, Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS) is a postgraduate institution of international standard which evolved from the collaboration between the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria and IFP School, France. In addition to pursuing an aggressive policy of home-grown human capital development in line with world standards by offering international recognized, industry-relevant and professionally sound and certified programmes, IPS saves the industry and the government foreign exchange investments in postgraduate training. IPS promotes international and national academic collaborations and linkages, partnership with industry and collaboration with national and international professional bodies. The healthy relationship between town and gown makes it possible for the industry and professional bodies to be actively involved in driving the programme life-circle of IPS curriculum development to course delivery/joint project supervision.
