Martin KuriaLecturer

Martin Kuria is a lecturer of communication and has a bachelor of arts in communication (electronic media, Daystar University). A Master of Arts in Communication (Corporate Communication, Daystar University) and A PhD candidate in Communication studies (Moi University). He has published several papers in the areas of Crisis Communication in churches and Digital television for innovation. His interests are in mentorship of students and the youth. As well as understanding the Pedagogical practice of the discipline of Communication and Journalism.

Marion AmakuziLecturer

Marion Amakuzi holds a Bachelor of Communication and Information Technology from Maseno University and is currently pursuing a Masters in Communication and Media Studies at Daystar University.

Marion is enthusiastic about media training in the digital era and her current research focuses on improving the methods of training which will see students get hands on experience and be market ready by the time they graduate.

Marion underwent a media training at Media Development in Africa (MEDEVA) after which she worked on two TV productions i.e. ‘Agenda Kenya’ and the ‘Woman’s Show’ as a Video Tape Recorder, visual mixer and an assistant editor.

She has interacted with young students for more than seven years and this has empowered her to be keen on nurturing them both in academics and in social life.

Paul MwanikiLecturer

Paul Mwaniki is a technology enthusiast who holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He also holds various certifications that include Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) routing and switching, IBM Mobile Application Development (work light) certified Instructor, Oracle Java Certified Instructor and Oracle Database Certified Instructor. He has experience in networking, web development and data centre management.

Dr. Margaret NjeruLecturer School of Education

Dr. Margaret Njeru joins Riara University as a Lecturer in the School of Education. She holds a PhD in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign . She also holds an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Nairobi , and a second M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, U.S.A. .

Dr. Njeru has a long history of teaching at the university level. She taught as an assistant lecturer and later as lecturer in the department of Linguistics at Egerton University, Kenya, from . She left Egerton university in and joined the University of Illinois to pursue her doctoral studies.

While at the University of Illinois, she taught Kiswahili and also Global Studies as a Teaching Assistant. She also worked as a co-director for the Global Studies Initiative program in the same university during the period . She was a visiting lecturer for Kiswahili in the same university from .

Before joining Riara University, Dr. Njeru worked as a senior Lecturer in the faculty of Education at the Kampala International University in Dar-es-salaam campus for one year.

Caroline Omari LichumaLecturer - Riara University School of Law

Ms. Caroline Omari Lichuma, LLM (NYU), LLB (UON), CPA-K She graduated from the University of Nairobi in with a Bachelor of Law Degree. She received the Hamilton, Harrison and Mathews – Le Pelley Prize for the best third year student in the school of Law for the academic year 2008/2009.
Ms. Lichuma thereafter undertook her Master of Laws degree at the New York University School of Law where she was a Dean Graduate scholar. She graduated with an LLM in International Legal Studies in 2012.
She is a Certified Public Accountant and was the fifth best student nationally CPA Part l sec 1, June 2005; KASNEB Exams as well as the best student nationally in CPA Part II Sec 3, June 2006; KASNEB Exams. Ms. Lichuma has been in academia for five years and has previously lectured in Company Law, Commercial Law, Business Law, Corporate and Global Law, Law of Evidence as well as Cost and Management Accounting at the Strathmore University (School of Accountancy, School of Law, School of Finance and Applied Economics as well as School of Commerce and Management).

Abel KinotiThe Dean, School of Business, Associate

Professor Abel Kinoti, is a Fellow of United Kingdom, Higher Education Academy (UKHEA), and holds a Doctorate Degree in Commerce (Business Management) from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), Republic of South Africa, in addition to Master of Business Administration (Marketing) and Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree programmes from Vikram and Bhopal University, India respectively. He also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice, from York St. John University-UK and International Faculty Programme Certificate, from IESE Business School, University of Navarra-Barcelona- Spain, besides, extensive training in case writing and the use of case teaching methods. He has also been involved in study tours of African and European Business Schools.

Mr. John MbuthiLecturer

Mr. John Mbuthi, is a distinguished scholar in international education and research. Prior to joining Riara University, in September 2011, he was a senior consultant with Think Smart Africa Education Consultants to , where he carried out national and international research projects that aimed to determine the co-relationship between educational attainment levels and the degree of individuals’ participation in socio-economic activities.

From to 2009, he headed Rusinga School, Nairobi, an international school that offers the British National Curriculum (BNC) and IGCSE/GCE programmes. During his tenure at Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi as the deputy head and International Baccalaureate diploma programme coordinator, he was appointed the IBO regional representative, East and Central Africa from 2003. He was a member of the IB Diploma Review Committee to and the Chair of the Nairobi IB School to .

Mr. Mutuma Michubu Lecturer School of Education

Mr. Mutuma Michubu has specialized in Economics of Education and Planning. He holds a Degree at first class honors and in Educational planning from the University of Nairobi.  Besides, he holds a Post graduate diploma in project management from the Kenya Institute of Management. He is currently pursuing Ph.D. in Economics of Education and Planning at Kenyatta University.
Prior to joining Riara University, Mr. Mutuma was teaching at the University of Nairobi, Kenya Methodist University and Mt. Kenya University. Besides, he taught at Oshwal Academy Nairobi, a school offering British National Curriculum (BNC).

Mr. Mutuma has supervised several postgraduate and diploma students in their research projects at the University of Nairobi.

He has carried out research in internal efficiency in secondary schools in Meru North district as well as challenges facing implementation of rehabilitation programs for street children in Kenya. He is currently carrying out research on the rapid expansion and massification of higher education in Kenya as well as the impact of recent takeover of middle level colleges by Universities.

Harriet Wambui NjuiAssociate Professor School of Education

Associate Professor, Harriet Wambui Njui is an Associate Professor in the School of Education (RSE) at Riara University. She served in RSE as Associate Dean from January, to May, 2016, and currently occupies the position of the Ag. Dean in the same School. She also chairs the University Curriculum Committee. Professor Njui is a holder of a Diploma in Education (Dip. Ed , a B. Ed, , both from Kenyatta University, ( Educational Communication & /Technology) in from the University of Nairobi, and a PhD (Curriculum Studies & Instruction) in from Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Kenya.

Njui has served in numerous institutions of higher learning in administrative positions as Head of Department and Teaching Practice Coordinator, including Kenya Technical Teachers Training College and Highridge Teachers College. She served as a Senior Lecturer at Daystar University for 18 years where she held administrative positions as HOD, Music Department , , Humanities Department and HOD, Education Department . Professor Njui has served as an Education Consultant and Resource Person with the Commission for University Education to-date). She has evaluated and peer reviewed numerous education degree programmes and offered her expertise in CUE Quality Audit Inspection of universities for accreditation and quality control.

Dr. Joy MueniLecturer

Dr. Joy Mueni holds a Ph. D in Communication and Information Studies from the University of Nairobi, an M. A in Communication from Daystar University and a BA in Journalism, Literature and Public Administration from the University of Mysore, India. She has twelve years’ experience in Journalism, Media Production, Communications and Educative Media Production on gender and development for both local and international media as well as five years’ experience as a Lecturer in media and journalism courses.

Eric KinyekiLecturer

Eric Kinyeki joined Riara University in December as the Head of Studio and lecturer of Multimedia Journalism. He is an expert in audio/video production and media broadcast with over ten years of experience from world class media houses: PBS & Disney Kids radio station, CNN – Turner Studios, Dallas Austin Recording Projects (DARP) and Outkast Stankonia studio T- Mobile.
In Kenya, he has consulted for the Emmy Award winning ACE Communications Nairobi and previously worked for Africa24 Media (CameraPix) where he was the Creative Designer and Senior Documentary Editor for CCTV (China Central Television) – Faces of Africa , Reuters – Africa Journal and Creative Director for upcoming programs for TV Continental – Africa Means Business, On the Road and Salim Amins SCOOP.

Eric is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University of Technology in Baltimore Maryland USA in with a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in Design Visual Communication with top honors and gaining universal core skills in cinematography, audio and visual effects, multimedia journalism, critical thinking and analysis and Art Institute of Atlanta in with a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies (BA) – Audio production and Engineering and digital film studies, where he learnt the art of Digital audio production, recording technology, 3D animation, illustration, typography arts, photography, special effects, music studio business and industry, graphic design.

Zephania Thaisayi OpatiLecturer

Zephania Thaisayi Opati is a lecturer at Riara University and a PhD candidate at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture, Kenya. He holds a Master’s of Business degree from Universiti Teknologi Mara (Malaysia) and a Bachelor of Business Degree (Marketing) from Maseno University (Kenya).
He has over six years’ experience teaching at the Higher education level having taught in Jomo Kenyatta of Agriculture and technology and IAT (Maseno University and St Paul’s Courses.) and Egerton University Nairobi Campus.

He is a member The Academy of International Business (AIB) a member of Chartered Institute of Marketing (C.I.M)and a member of member Commonwealth fellowship scholars (Malaysian Chapter).

Sylvia Kang’araFounding Dean - Riara University Law School

Sylvia Kang’ara was appointed founding Dean of Riara University Law School in April 2012. An expert in comparative private law and property theory, international law, and theories of justice, she has taught in several institutions, most recently at the University Of Washington School Of Law in the US and the University of Perugia, Italy.

Professor Kang’ara graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University Of Nairobi School Of Law in 1996. After completing postgraduate studies at the Kenya School of Law in 1997, she received the Samuel Morse Lane Scholarship to pursue a Master of Laws (LLM) degree at Harvard Law School, graduating in 1998. She subsequently gained admission to Harvard Law School’s Doctor of Juridical Sciences (SJD) degree program from which she graduated in 2003. In the course of her doctoral studies, she received awards from the Association of American University Women, the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, and the Institute for the Study of World Politics. She subsequently joined the New York law firm, White & Case, LL.P., as an international legal associate in the firm’s project finance and equipment leasing practice.

Jackline M. NyagaSenior Lecturer Riara University Law School

Ms. Jackline M. Nyaga is a senior lecturer at the Riara University Law School. She graduated top of her class with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nairobi in 1997. She was: the best overall student ; best final year law student ; best outstanding law graduate ; and best second year law student . Subsequent to her undergraduate studies, she proceeded to the London School of Economics & Political Science under a full merit scholarship and graduated with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree.

Florence K. ShakoLecturer - Riara University School of Law

Florence K. Shako, LLM (LSE), LLB (Nairobi), CPA (Strathmore) Ms Florence Shako (née Gakungi) is a Lecturer at Riara Law School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi School of Law in 2010. She graduated at the top of her class and received three prestigious awards for being the best overall law student that is, the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Trustee Fund prize, the Kaplan and Stratton Advocates prize and the Mohammed/Muigai Advocates prize. Thereafter, Ms Shako pursued a Master of Laws degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She specialised in Corporate and Commercial Law graduating in 2012. She also holds several professional qualifications. Ms Shako holds a postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and is admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

CPA Rogers Kinoti M’AribaLecturer

CPA Rogers Kinoti M’Ariba is an accomplished Economist, Accountant, Corporate Secretary and investment practitioner and consultant. He holds a Master of Arts (Economics) and Bachelor of Arts (Economics) – First Class Honours from the University of Nairobi. Mr. Kinoti is a doctoral student in Finance at JKUAT. Professionally, he is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA (K)) and a Certified Public Secretary (CPS (K)). He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK) where he also serves in the Finance and Strategy Committee.

Ms GladysLecturer

Gladys is currently a PhD student in Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology. In addition she holds an MBA in Finance, Bachelors in Business Administration (Accounting and Finance) and a Certified Public Accountant (K). She is coupled with over 10 years working experience in Accounting and Finance from a wide number of corporation which include the multinationals. Because of her passion in lecturing, Gladys left the corporate field to join the academia, where she first taught as an adjunct lecturer at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and PAC University.

Professor Felix Musau Founding Dean - Riara University School of Computer Sciences

Professor Felix Musau was appointed founding Dean of Riara University School of Computing Sciences in July 2015. An expert in Computer Science and Information Technology where he worked over years in both Technical and Academic fields. He has taught and mentored students in several institutions, most recently at the Kenyatta University, School of Engineering and Technology, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, School of Computing and Information Technology, Management University, United states International University-Africa and the University of Nairobi, School of Computing and Informatics among others. At Kenyatta University he was a founder of the KU Cisco Networking Academy, Legal Main Contact and head of the Unit which now offers Cisco courses in KU campuses. He also headed the IBM Projects at the University, where he saw successful implementation of the Project. In the University he also served as Director-ICT and AG-Chairman of Department. He has been a Chair and member of several committees at University and the community at large. He is a trained instructor for CCNA, Mobile Application Development and Cyber security. He is also a trained Microsoft professional as an MCSE, MCSD, MCDBA, and MCSA, Health Information Management (HIN) as well as a Licensed Installer for Copper and Fiber. He is a member of Computer Society of Kenya, ACM, World Federation of Associations of Teacher Education (W.F.A.T), IEEE, Microsoft Certified has been actively involved in External Examination, curriculum development and evaluation for various universities, Industry-University linkages and mentoring students.
Professor Felix Musau graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy degree and Master of Science in Computer Science and Technology, from the School of computing and Information Engineering, Central South University, P.R CHINA in 2012, which is one of the Top Universities in Asia. He is one of the recipients of the Prestigious Great Wall Chinese Full scholarships for both Msc and Ph.D. degrees. In the course of his doctoral studies, he was recognized as a top student having been first foreign student in the year in his group to complete his Doctoral studies at the school on schedule.

Kirop has pursued Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering as well as Programmable Logic Control (PLC), from Technical University of Kenya. He has also pursued ICDL and Accredited tester, A+ and N+ from Institute of Advanced Technology (IAT) as well as certifications in Security, Cloud and Databases. He has a wealth of experience in the field of Electrical, Information Technology, Telecommunications and Instrumentation, acquired from a number of Telecommunication and IT firms. Florence KimaniLecturer

Florence Kimani has pursued Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Management Information Systems, from the University of Nairobi. In addition, she has undertaken a Bachelor in Computer Science (BSC) from Kenyatta University as well as certification on Mobile Development and Administration. Florence is zealous about academic work, a passion which was evidenced in a paper that she presented at the ORSEA Conference which was held in University of Nairobi in on “Business Forecasting and Prediction markets Potential on Banking Industry in Kenya”.
